Chander Tal – The Moon Lake in Lahaul-Spiti

Chandertal Lake is situated at an altitude of 4250 meters, which is the most attractive lake in Himachal Pradesh. This lake is located in the Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, India. The size of this lake meets the half moon, hence the name of this lake is Chandertal Lake. The water of the lake looks blue when viewed from a distance and shines like a mirror when approached.

The beauty of this lake of God Bhoomi is made on seeing and this lake is visited by tourists from all over the world. This lake is very famous for nature lovers and people who are fond of adventure.

The natural beauty of this place is made on sight. This kaza is considered an integral part of wildlife. There are green meadows around it, in which there are several hundred varieties of flowers. Kunzum Pass in Lahaul-Spiti

Kunzum Pass is a pass located in the Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, India, which is also known for Kunzum La and Kunzum Mata. Kunzum Pass
Its height is 4590 meters. This pass is located at a distance of about 76 km from Rohtang and about 75 km from Kaza.

There is also a short trek to Chandertal from here. The natural beauty here is going to mesmerize you. Kunzum Pass is open from June to September. The rest of the year remains covered with snow.

This is the main pass connecting Lahaul and Spiti valley. You reach Kunzum Pass from Kaza via Losar Village. The distance from Kaza to Losar is about 55 kilometers and its height is 4084 meters. Here you can see domestic animals like yalak animal sheep etc. The high mountains here play the role of a loyal friend for the journey of Spiti Valley, who stays with us throughout the journey.

Hikkim Village In Spiti – World’s Highest Post Office

Hikkim Village is a small village situated in the Lahaul Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, whose height is about 4400 meters. Here is the world’s highest post office.
There is a trend among tourists to post letters to their homes and friends from here. The pincode here is 172114. Ringchen Chering has been serving here as a postmaster since 1983.

Komik Village – The World’s Highest Motorable Village

Koumik Village is the highest motorable village in the world with a height of about 14400 feet. The world’s highest restaurant is here. Comic Monastery is located here. From here there is a beautiful view of the surroundings. Due to the high altitude, you may lack oxygen here, so tourists are requested to travel here with peace and restraint.

The distance from Kaza Town to Comic Village is about 18 kms. This village is situated on an open ridge.

Langza Village in Spiti

The Village of Langza Village, Himachal which is also famous for the fossils of sea creatures. Small groups of houses made of Tibetan Shelly are found here. Langza village is situated at an altitude of 4400 meters in the Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, India.

The most interesting thing here is that the Langza and Spiti valley was a valley of marine fauna and flora below the Tethys Sea millions of years ago. Today there is no Tethys Sea, but the fossils of sea creatures are still giving testimony of their time here.

Finding fossils requires just a keen eye, not a guide.
It is situated at a distance of about 13 kms from Kaza. Fields swaying with green crops attract you to themselves. A huge statue of Lord Mercury has also been constructed here.

Tashi Gang Village In Spiti

Tashi Gang Gaon is a very small village situated in the Lahaul Spiti district of Himachal. Its total population is about 45 and it is the highest polling booth in India. The way to reach here passes through beautiful mountains and desert dunes. It is a place for grazing of wild animals. Where you can get the good fortune of encountering these creatures.
This place is great for a camp site.

Kibber Village In Spiti

Kibber Village is a very beautiful village situated in Spiti district adjacent to Chichum Village which is situated at an altitude of 4270 meters. The golden sun glistening in the valley amidst the high snowy hills, the crops swinging in the fields of Kibber, the Spiti river rising from the glaciers and tearing the sand dunes make Kibber one of the most beautiful villages of Spiti.

The pieces of clouds float in these villages throughout the day. Standing on a mound in the Kibber village of Spiti valley, it seems as if we are touching the sky with our hands up. The muddy mountains, sandy dunes, chanting of mantras in the quiet resonating monastery, the wildlife here doing the ruckus and everything so close to nature will force you to imagine that painter.
Kibber Gaon is the main gate of Tashi Gang and Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary.

There is proper arrangement of homestay to stay here. The Parangala pass trek starts from this village which is open almost till September which will take you straight to Tsomori Lake. This trek is about 90 km long. It has to cover a short distance daily, which takes seven days.
While trekking, wild animals like the Snow Leopard Ibex can always come in front of you and thrill you.

Chicham Village

Chichum Village is located in the Spiti Valley at a distance of about 22 km from Kaza, which is connected by a bridge. Chicham Bridge is 120 meters long and 150 meters high bridge which is built over Lambasamba Nala. Due to the completion of this historical bridge, the inaccessible Chicham village residents have got relief.

From here there is a bypass road to Manali. Hotels and homestays are also available in Chichan village. In fact, the beauty of Chicham Gaon is a delight to the tourists all over the world.

You can get a great opportunity to meet Ibex, Spiti goats, Snow Leopard anytime around Chicham Gaon. From Chicham gaon you can go to Kibber Village, Wildlife Sanctuary and Tashigang. Where you will have the experience of admiring the high mountains.

Kee Monastery in Spiti

Ki Gompa is built in the Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, about 12 km from Kaza. The monastery was established in the 13th century. It is believed that this is the largest monastery of Spiti Valley. This monastery located in Leh looks exactly like the math, its height is 13500 feet and this monastery is built on the rocks in a conical shape. It was made by Ringchen Sangpo.

It remained safe even in the earthquake of 1975 AD and was affected by the invasion of 19th century Sikhs and Dogra kings. Some ancient manuscripts and some weapons have been kept in this monastery.

Cham Utsav is celebrated every year in the month of June-July. In the year 2000, the Dalai Lama performed the Kalachakra Abhisheka at the Smee Monastery.

Key Monastery is the main tourist destination for the tourists, which is world famous for its natural beauty, spirituality, soulful peace.

Kaza Town Lahaul & Spiti

Kaza is situated at an altitude of about 3700 meters on the banks of the Spiti River in Lahual Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, India. It is said to be the cold desert of Himachal Pradesh.

It is an important trading center of Lahaul Spiti which is surrounded by snowy mountains from all sides. If you are fond of adventure along with natural beauty, then definitely make a plan to visit here.

Rivers and waterfalls have a special contribution in enhancing the beauty of this place. This entire Spiti valley is full of ancient villages, mythological monasteries and other places of interest.

It is about 420 km away from the capital Shimla. Many homestays and hotels are also available in Kaza. The nearest rail route to Kaza is Shimla and Airway Kullu is the Bhuntar airport in Manali.

Spiti parallels Tibet and Ladakh regions in terms of its climate and Bodh culture. Kaza town is spread over 4 kms on the banks of Spiti river in Spiti valley.

There are two ways to reach here, one via Manali which is open for 6 months in a whole year. The second via Shimla which is open almost throughout the year till Kaza. Kaza is connected with National Highway 505 Shimla and Manali.

From here you can visit Langja Village, Comic Village, Hikkim Village, Key Village, Kibber Village, Chichum Village, Tashigang Village, Losar Village, Kunzum Pass and Chandertal which are considered to be major tourist destinations.

Pin Valley & Mudh Village

Mudh village is a beautiful village situated at an altitude of 3700 meters in Pin Valley. There is a good arrangement of some hotels and homestays along with some houses here. The people here are dependent on tourism and agriculture. It is situated at about 50 kms from Kaza, 51 kms from Dhankar, about 435 kms from Shimla and about 250 kms from Manali. From here the Bhava pass trek starts which is open till the month of September. Pin Parvati trek also starts from here.

Spiti river accompanies us throughout the journey and the changing scenery at every turn touches the soul. It gives the tourists an immersive visual experience. On the way comes a Sangam village which is very beautiful.

There is a proper arrangement to stay here too. The snow capped high peaks of Pin Valley add to the view here. Pin Valley is a National Wildlife Sanctuary. The main attraction of Pin Valley are various wildlife like Ibex, Spiti Goat, Snow Leopard, Redfox etc. Pin Valley Wildlife Sanctuary was established on 9 January 1987.
The height of the park ranges from about 3500 m to 6000 m. Pin Valley is a colorful valley in a way. This is considered to be the favorite place of tourists.

Dhankar Village

Dhankar village is situated on a hill which was once the capital of Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh, India. Dhankar means a fort built on a rock. Its altitude is 3894 meters above sea level. A monastery is located here Dhankar Gompas which is situated on top of this village.

The view of the Spiti river and the tall conical mountains make this village even more scenic. This is a small village which is about 37 kms from Kaza. It has been the capital of Spiti for many years.

It is situated on a ridge which was meant to defend against attack. Dhankar village is also famous for Spiti Wildlife today. Dhankar Lake is another scenic spot on the trek of about 5 hours from Dhankar Village, so whenever you visit Dhankar village, don’t forget to visit Dhankar Lake. It offers a panoramic view of the sky touching mountains, Spiti river, and all around.

Tabo Village Spiti

The true beauty and essence of Spiti resides in its village. You’ve just passed through the valley, you haven’t experienced it or really seen it.
You do not need to go out much road to reach Tabo village. It is located 3280 meters on Shimla – Kaza main highway.
You can take the unique experience of a lifetime with you by spending a night in the monastery here.

Tabo Village is a small village situated on the banks of river Spiti in Spiti district, about 50 km from Kaza.

The monastery located here is more than 1000 years old. The Dalai Lama believes that Tabo Monastery is the holiest monastery where he has expressed his desire to stay after retirement.

Tabo village remains very cold in winters.
Tabo Monastery is also known for its natural beauty and its natural caves.
There are 2 ways to reach Tabo. The first easy way from Shimla, the second a little more difficult from Manali. The road to Manali remains open from May to mid-October. The road here is open throughout the year except in winter.

Gue Village in Spiti

Gue – The Live Mummy

Gue was found in a tomb located at an altitude of 6000 meters in Spiti district, Himachal Pradesh, India, which is a living mummy identified as Bhikshu Union, Tenjin.
Villagers came to know about the mummy in 1975 when a part of the tomb collapsed due to an earthquake in the area. Since then this place has become a favorite destination of tourists.

It is believed that this Mummy’s nails and hair are still growing. When the Himalayan Wings team reached GUE, we found that the villagers of GUE are very nice people and they do not shy away from helping the passengers. This mummy is now kept inside the Glass in the newly built temple where tourists can see it.

Nako Village, Nako Lake View – A beautiful Village in the lap of Snow capped Mountains

Nako Village is situated at the height of about 3600 meters from the sea level.This is located near Indo China Border in Trans-Himalaayan region of Kinnaur district.It is the last village of Kinnaur district. Outsider visitors need inner line permits for staying in this region. All major attractions can be enjoyed by foot.
