Tabo Village is a small village situated on the banks of river Spiti in Spiti district, about 50 km from Kaza.
The monastery located here is more than 1000 years old. The Dalai Lama believes that Tabo Monastery is the holiest monastery where he has expressed his desire to stay after retirement.
Tabo village remains very cold in winters.
Tabo Monastery is also known for its natural beauty and its natural caves.
There are 2 ways to reach Tabo. The first easy way from Shimla, the second a little more difficult from Manali. The road to Manali remains open from May to mid-October. The road here is open throughout the year except in winter.
